How to Repair Corrupt MDF Database

Database storage applications are powerhouses for keeping data available for retrieval when needed. These massive data collectors collect data, process queries, and retrieve information in real time. As the leading provider of productivity solutions, Microsoft offered the Microsoft SQL server, a relational model database, in 1989. Since that time businesses and individuals alike have used the SQL interfaced database to create data-driven solutions in every industry imaginable.

Along with the praise received, however, there are several well-founded reasons those with a distaste for the MS SQL database give as to why the MS SQL Server is more of a headache than a help. Grouping of all complaints typically comes down to one main issue general users have with the MS SQL Database - corrupt .MDF database files.

MDF Database File Corruption

Every MS SQL Server database uses a primary data file / master data file (.mdf) which contains the database's startup information as well as information regarding other files the database uses. When this file is damaged or corrupt, the database ceases to operate as reported by many of the common errors below:

  • "Server can't find the requested database table"
  • "Index '%ls' on '%ls' in database '%ls' may be corrupt because of expression evaluation changes in this release. Drop and recreate the index"
  • "The file *.mdf is missing and needs to restore"
  • "SQL Server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered"
  • "Error 6 File system error: The following file is corrupted"
  • "Table Corrupt: object id does not match between extent in allocation page and Sysindexes"

Fixing a .mdf file manually is never recommended and we strongly recommend using a good MS SQL Database Recovery software program. This MS SQL recovery software by Stellar:

- repairs the .mdf file and restores order to the MS SQL database.
- retrieves backups (if available) located on the database server.
- recovers indexes, constraints, tables, triggers, views, rules, defaults, and other values and data types that were saved during MS SQL usage.

An additional benefit of using MS SQL Database Recovery by Stellar is that it does not make changes to the current .mdf file making it safe to use on your existing database file. Current support is available for Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2005 and 2000 and the support is, well...stellar to say the least.
